Temporal Rhythms

Temporal Rhythms invites you to immerse yourself in a room’s ambient soundscape through cassette recorders, heightening awareness of the often-overlooked sonic textures that surround us. The imperfections of the recorder transform the room's sounds into an ambient soundscape, continuously evolving for the duration of the performance.

The pursuit of perfection in audio recording overlooks a fundamental truth: imperfections are not flaws to be removed but elements that enrich our listening experience. Perfection risks distancing us from the texture that makes sound dynamic and engaging. It is within these imperfections that we find authenticity, narrative, and the beauty of sound.

Magnetic tape, often considered an outdated and imperfect technology, becomes a tactile medium for exploring sound. Its distinct flaws and material quirks contribute to a layered auditory experience. Through a loop of magnetic tape and two cassette recorders—one recording and the other playing back—the setup captures and replays the sounds of the surrounding space. This process connects the physicality of the medium with a reflective experience of sound, space, and time.
