Videolab explores analog and experimental filmmaking through a Sony DCR-HC18E camcorder. Although the camera records digitally, it stores footage on analog tape, offering a unique set of limitations and possibilities. The project approaches these devices with curiosity rather than nostalgia, uncovering new forms through earlier cinematic methods. By embracing the qualities of tape recording, it challenges the pursuit of sharper, clearer images and values artistic expression over technical precision. Guided by a manifesto, Videolab follows strict criteria: filming exclusively with the camcorder, keeping footage on cassette, and creating new experimental videos through performance-based scores.
